The Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Kubwa, Abuja on Tuesday, August 16, reserved judgement on the eligibility of Ali Modu Sheriff as Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) till Wednesday. Danladi Ayuba, the plaintiff, said that he wants the court to determine whether Sheriff can continue to do anything legally on behalf of the party despite the binding and submitting ‎court judgement which annulled the amendment of the party’s constitution under the leadership Sheriff. The hearing o‎f notice is between Danladi Ayuba (Plaintiff) and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff (defendant). The judgement expected to be delivered on Wednesday, August 17, at the High Court of FCT at 9am.

There have been power tussle between the Modu-Sheriff camp and the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee that was appointed by some PDP governors at the national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

Recall that The embattled national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff has been removed by an Abuja high court on Wednesday, June 29. The court presided over by Justice Valentine Ashi, sacked the party’s chairman from office by nullifying the 2014 PDP constitution amendment upon which Sheriff was appointed as the PDP chairman. It voided the said amendment on the basis that there was no compliance with mandatory provisions of Article 66 (2) and (3) of the PDP constitution.

“By reason of the above, the purported amendments introduced to the constitution on the aforesaid dates, are hereby set-aside. “All persons, individuals, servants or agents of PDP parading themselves as national officers of the PDP pursuant to the purported amendment which has now been nullified are hereby restrained from further parading themselves in these capacities “, Justice Ashi held. The judgment followed a suit marked FCT/HC/CV/1867/2016, which was lodged before the court by a chieftain of the PDP in Ondo state, Chief Joseph Jero.
